I saw this image today of the World trade center area. I was sickened by how it has virtually unchanged since the cleanup 8 YEARS ago. If this were other countries that were bombed the buildings would have been replaced almost immediately to show those that had bombed them they would not be intimidated. But here we bicker and fight of the design of the building. What a sad statement it says about America when we cannot honor the dead by showing them and the world that we are not just mere words.
Instead it seems we leave this wound to fester as a reminder to the world that we are not united as we would like them to believe. It screams of the hypocrisy that our system is far from the facade it is trying to pass as real. The only true way to regain that is to stop the politics and try to unify so we can again grow. I hope to live to see this someday but right now this image is burned into my brain and I hang my head in shame at what this country has become.
